From my understanding all you should need is an adapter for electrical outlets in the UK (they are different from those in the US). As far as I know that's the only thing you should need.

Am hoping to buy a digital camcorder (is it digital video format?) in america for use in the UK ; are there any compatibility issues with this? can I just get a new charger that works on UK electronics or are they completely incompatible?

... and remember to import DV as NTSC.
BTW, I would also assume that you will not be able to playback the analog signal on any native UK equipment, such as TV, VCR etc.

Chris, the solution is to just buy a camera from here in the UK.
Why would you want to buy one from the USA?
